Eat, Sleep, & Play

The title sums up Isaac's day.  Most of the time he's a pretty easy going kid.  The past few days have been the exception.  Either we're starting some really bad sleeping habits or he's going through a growth spurt and just needs more food.  He's been waking up early around 4:30-5:00 and isn't too keen on going back to sleep.  He isn't crying... really.  It starts as play squeals and then turns into slight fussiness.  The problem is that I don't want to pick him up if he isn't crying, but I'm not really sleeping either.  I don't want to encourage this behavior and make it a learned behavior by picking him up, but 1) ignoring it or 2) patting him and giving him a paci isn't cutting it either.  What happened to the long stretches of sleep??

This morning I could tide him over for about an hour, then I ended up feeding him.  After that he was so out of it, I just let him sleep.  It was only 6:20 by the time he was finished, so I put him back down hoping that he'd sleep a while.  Forty-five minutes was all that my efforts bought me.  At least I got a shower and breakfast, though, so I can't complain.  He's talking up a storm as I write this & Roy is my foot warmer. :-)

Alex is taking Isaac to the pediatrician today for his 4 month well-visit and shots. Perhaps the Dr. will have some insight on sleeping patterns.

I also have another selfie with Isaac.  It's not great of me, but that's okay.  It's all about the kid anyway.

And, as promised, here are the gingerbread houses.

Sort of a Holland house - gotta have fun with the kit after all.

  1. He's really a gorgeous baby, Heidi! Very adorable! And sometimes, I think, you just don't know what is going on. You may be able to look back and say, "Oh, yeah! He was beginning to cut teeth!" or something like that, but other (most) times, it just seems inexplicable. At least for my kids.

The gingerbread houses are cute! Looks like you all had fun!
